A Lake in A Desert
An Exhibition of Contradictions, Extremes, and Adaptation
January 7–24, 2026 | Brown Center, Maryland Institute College of Art

A Lake in A Desert is a call for co-creation in a moment when science needs humanity and art needs evidence.

MICA students are invited to submit original works exploring contradictions, adaptation, transformation, landscape, collaboration, and the humanity within research. Selected student works will be exhibited in dialogue with renowned artists and illustrators from the worlds of scientific illustration, cartography, children’s books, and visual storytelling.

We welcome 2D, 3D, and 4D works (including digital, interactive, sound, or time-based media). The exhibition will be curated by EcoDepot and collaborators from the Turkana Basin Institute, with one juried prize of $1,000 awarded to a selected artist aged 18 or older. The award announcement will take place during the Closing Reception on January 22, 2026.
